Our InstaWalk at the invite of Wien Energie started with a trip with a shuttle bus from the centre of Vienna to the wind energy park Pottendorf. After a short ride we received a short safety briefing directly in front of one of the 15 wind turbines. Our group had the opportunity to attend a maintenance of the wind turbines by use of drones and afterwards to visit one of the wind turbines including the cabin at which the wind turbine is mounted at a height of more than 100m.

Wind Farm InstaWalk

The Pottendorf/Tattendorf wind farm consists of 15 wind turbines in the vicinity of Vienna.

Pottendorf, Lower Austria – Friday 22 March, 2019

The wind farm was opened in autumn 2015. The 15 wind turbines – with a total capacity of 42.9 megawatts – have been generating around 94,400 megawatt hours of electricity annually since then, supplying more than 28,000 households with electricity from wind energy.

Growth market wind power

In Austria, more than 5,000 people already have a job due to the domestic wind turbines (wind farms, manufacturers and suppliers). Start-ups are also active in this field, such as the company Skyability, which also specialises in the inspection of wind turbines using drones.

Enercon E-101 Wind Turbine

The wind turbine E-101 is produced by Enercon GmbH. This is a further development of the E-82 2.0 MW for moderate locations of wind class IIA or weaker. For the first time it is not possible to climb through the generator of a large Enercon machine to get into the hub. The nacelle of the E-101 has been greatly enlarged so that fitters can now pass the generator on the outside and switch over to the spinner.

We simply have to transition from an economy based almost exclusively on oil and coal and natural gas to one that’s far more diversified, that uses solar energy, and wind energy, and the power of the tides, and bio-mass energy, and eventually, develops hydrogen.
William J. Clinton

The length of the nacelle is approx. 15 m with a diameter of approx. 6.5 m. The nacelle is also approx. 15 m long. The liquid cooler for the stator was integrated into the outer shell at the rear end of the nacelle. With approx. 250 t, the nacelle (incl. rotor) is considerably heavier than the nacelle of other series.

The plant is available with a 99, 135 or 147 metre high precast concrete tower and can optionally be equipped with a rotor blade heater, which prevents yield losses due to ice formation in winter.

Wien Energie

As an energy company, Wien Energie GmbH is part of Wiener Stadtwerke. Wien Energie is the largest energy supplier in Austria and sells a total of approx. 23 TWh of electrical energy, natural gas and district heating annually.

In May 1997 one of the first Austrian wind turbines was put into operation on the Danube island in Vienna. In 2005, one of the highest wind farms in Europe was put into operation at an altitude of just under 1,600 metres. Since autumn 2015, 15 wind turbines have been in operation in Pottendorf (12 of them Enercon E-101, rotor diameter 101 m or rotor diameter 85 m, capacity 3 MW) with a total capacity of over 40 MW of electricity. This wind farm was designed as a citizen participation model.

WEEKEND

During a visit to the Swarovski Kristallwelten (Crystal Worlds) as part of an InstaWeekend I also learned a lot of interesting things about Swarovski’s activities as Official Supplier & Presenting Partner of the FIS Nordic World Ski WM in Seefeld. This was my first visit to a nordic ski event and thanks to a binocular from Swarovski Optik, to which one could also attach one’s smartphone for photographing and filming, we were very close. And it was fun to see every single Norwegian either dancing or drunk – that’s how successful our friends from Norway were,

Wattens, Innsbruck & Saalfelden – March, 2019

My trip to Tyrol took me via Innsbruck to Wattens where you can find one of the most popular tourist attractions in Austria: the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, a glittering paradise of sparkling crystal glass for which the Swarovski brand is internationally renowned. It is a unique art and adventure park and was created by multimedia artist André Heller to mark the company’s 100th anniversary. This extraordinary place of fantasy, art and play has since become an indispensable part of the beautiful Inn Valley in Tyrol.

Some impressions from Hall in Tirol

In this magnificent place I stayed at the Parkhotel Hall in Tirol. I have been there for the second time and I had a very comfy room in the tower with a splendid view over the Inn valley.

In the context of a get-together of friends I was allowed to visit the “all empty” Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens and learn exciting things about the activities as Official Supplier and Presenting Partner of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 and the cooperation with the renewable material company Stora Enso.

The chamber “Transparent Opacity” by Arik Levy is one of 17 and an homage to the diversity of crystal. The title of this work already embraces both of its apparently contradictory aspects: its transparency and its impenetrability.

Swarovski Kristallwelten (Crystal Worlds)

The Swarovski Kristallwelten are a museum in Wattens, Austria. The museum was established in 1995 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian crystal company Swarovski, which was founded in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski. A century later, the multimedia artist Andre Heller was commissioned to design the museum with fourteen chambers. The museum already has 17 chambers, each of which was designed by different artists. The museum is open all year round.

FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019

Around 200,000 Swarovski crystals have made the Medal Plaza in Seefeld, where all the prizes were presented, sparkle. The Swarovski Crystal Worlds as Official Supplier, together with Presenting Partner Stora Enso, created the traditional prize of honour. In stylised form, the trophy made of light wood shows the Seefeld mountain backdrop, in the middle of which a Swarovski Chaton with special steaming in the colours gold, silver or bronze rests.

Creator meet Vienna

EyeEm X Canon, 25hrs Hotel, Vienna – Feb. 2019

The first EyeEm Creator Meets event in Vienna took place in the 25hrs Hotel. The design hotel was a good choice but the event took place on the 8th floor with a great view over the city. It was much more fun to try out the new Canon equipment – the Canon EOS R-System. In the morning there were very interesting lectures and I was most impressed by the lecture of Christian Anderl, a former radio presenter and now Canon Ambassador. Especially his final sentence: Don´t work with assholes, don´t work for assholes.

Dua Lipa X Jaguar

Dua Lipa X Jaguar

THE PACE
SEASON ONE

Jaguar has electrified its first production vehicle, the I-PACE. But also Dua Lipa, currently the most successful British singer and songwriter, was electrified. Together, the singer and the British automobile manufacturer announced a joint music and technology partnership in September 2018.

Dua Lipa X Jaguar

the pace – season one, Amsterdam – Sept. 2018

And this collaboration was a good reason to fly to Amsterdam. There I also had the opportunity to drive a brand new Jaguar I-PACE – the first electric vehicle to be built in my hometown of Graz. During the journey with the I-PACE, various parameters were recorded via numerous sensors. These values were then transferred directly to a cloud memory. An intelligent software then created a personal remix with this data.

On September 3rd the song “Want To” by Dua Lipa celebrated its premiere in Amsterdam. And for that it was quite a ride – according to the occasion of course purely electric with brand new I-PACE limousines: Stars like supermodel Doutzen Kroes and Kostja Ullmann, DJ Armin van Buuren and many more were present at the actual live event.

FACT BOX

Dua Lipa and Jaguar officially started their cooperation during an exclusive concert on September 3rd in Amsterdam. The event was the prelude to a Europe-wide campaign, The PACE: Season One, which focuses on the SUV models Jaguar E-PACE, F-PACE and the all-electric I-PACE.

Using Jaguar’s bespoke software, Dua created an exclusive remix of their latest track “Want To” and enabled us locally and their fans around the world to create personalized remixes with their own data – from the way they drive, the songs they hear, or by playing a rhythm on their mobile phone.

Over a million different remixes are reportedly possible, according to the software’s developers, with different beats per minute and versions based on a variety of musical styles, from hip-hop and dance to orchestra, pop, drum and bass. The track quickly became the most mixed song in history. And one version of it is mine – remixed live on location in Amsterdam in my first ride in an I-PACE.

Here you can create your own remix of “Want To”: Join the Pace
You can find my remix on my Instagram TV.

Jaguar Track Day

Jaguar Track Day

JAGUAR
TRACK DAY

There’s no better way of experiencing a sporty Jaguar than getting behind the wheel of the cars themselves. I had the chance to do laps with instructors during the Jaguar Track Days at the Red Bull Ring.

Jaguar Track day 2018

Red Bull Ring, Spielberg

I followed the invitation of the British car brand Jaguar and therefore went to beautiful Styria – where I grew up – to see how sporty the Jaguar models really are and also to learn a little from the experienced driving instructors.

190, 200, 210km/h. Straighten the car. Now brake hard in front of the Remus curve. The dynamic mode is activated and the Jaguar F-Type comes roaring out of the curve. There is no time to enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Red Bull Ring as the next bend on the Red Bull Ring is approaching. The blue Jaguar F-TYPE SVR with a 575 hp strong V8 has to be slowed down again.

FACT BOX

At the Jaguar Track Day 2018 I could test a blue Jaguar F-Type SVR, a white F-TYPE, the new electric I-PACE and the XE 30t on the Red Bull Ring – and an E-PACE on the handling course.

The Red Bull Ring circuit was established as Österreichring and hosted the Formula 1 Austria GP for 18 consecutive years. Later it was shortened, rebuilt and renamed to A1-Ring, and until 2003 the Austrian Grand Prix took place there again. When Formula 1 left the track, a plan was drawn up to expand the layout. Parts of the track, including the pits and the main grandstand, were demolished, but the construction work was stopped and the track remained unusable for several years before being bought and rebuilt by Red Bulls Dietrich Mateschitz. The track was renamed Red Bull Ring and reopened on 15 May 2011.
